Joel Alme and the love for Göteborg

Another boy wonder, Joel Alme, is creating sweet pop from Gothenburg. Joel released his debut album A master of Ceremonies last year, and had a hit with the song The Queen's corner. Mix Håkan Hellström with Broder Daniel and you will get an idea how sweet it can be! Joel's voice is the definition of painful love topped off with strings, and i think it's great :)

Joel is working on his second album, due to be released in the beginning of next year. For you who can't wait, check out the single that he releases in the beginning of December; You will only get it once. Like a true fan of Gothenburg's football team IFK, he wrote the new cheering song for the supporters Änglarna, a song filled with love for the sport and the city!

You can listen to Joel's first album on Spotify and if you are curious about his new single you can check it out on his Myspace!

New Release | Markus Krunegård

The man behind the hit Jag är en Vampyr, Markus Krunegård is back with not one, but two new albums on October 14th. The two new albums Prinsen av Peking and Lev som en gris dö som en hund is yet another proof of the ambitious work from the former singer in the band Laakso. Markus has the ability to make great pop songs in three different languages [Swedish, Finnish, English]. In the past Markus has collaborated with other artists like Säkert! [on the song Det kommer bara leda till något ont] and Andreas Kleerup. He also collaborated with the Swedish musical star Peter Jöback in the song Italy vs Helsinki.

GBG Belongs To Us

The song GBG Belongs To Us is part II in a three part love letter to Gothenburg, made by the duo Air France. The track was made together with Christina Roos from Cat 5 [another electronica duo from Gothenburg].

Air France is a Gothenburg based duo with Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt. The music has a summery aura, with light tunes, mixes of sounds of nature and sweet female voices [I find resemblance to Australian The Avalanches]. Air France have released two EPs so far, but The Love Letter to GBG feels like a teaser of more to come. I'm hoping for more collaborations and great mixes soon.

Daytrotter Sessions

As you might have noticed i love the websites with special features like videos or special recordings. That's why i love Daytrotter.com. There is a lot of good music to find, among the Swedish we find Loney, Dear and Dungen. You might also find fellow Scandinavian Ane Brun interesting. Become a member to be able to download free mp3's.

In the future i hope to find more Swedish music on Daytrotter, but in the meantime i enjoy a lot of other favorites on the website.

Drottninglandet

Earlier this spring the photographer Elin Berge and musician Frida Hyvönen released their collaboration Drottninglandet, a photographical work with special written music. Its an interesting way to combine two artistic expressions and make them into one. Something i would love to do myself someday.

The picture's show images of the life of Thai women in the deep forests of northern Sweden. The title of the exibition; Drottninglandet [Queen country] have several depths since the area is bearing many names of Swedish queens through history, but also because it is now inhabited by many Thai women, coming from a country that often is referred to as "The Kingdom". Read more about it [here] on Hasselblad Center's website. Friday Hyvönen also have ties to the area, since she was born and raised in Robertsfors, a small city outside of Umeå.

Its possible to buy the book with the images, and with that you also get Frida's CD. Isn't that a great way to spend an afternoon?

Ternheim + Thåström

News reports this week tell us that Anna Ternheim and Thåström is performing live together this summer. Interesting combination indeed. Anna's sweet voice and Thåström's rougher approach have been mixed before since Anna is featured in Thåströms song Kärlek Är För Dom on his new album.

Thåström is a veteran in the music business, he used to be the front man of the legendary punk band Ebba Grön and Imperiet. These days he is more of a blues-inspired singer-song writer.

So if you are in the regions of Sweden this summer, make sure to stop by Stockholm, Göteborg or Helsingborg to check them out.
